Data Quality Checker
The MSTCVS Data Quality Checker is a tool developed by the MSTCVS Quality Collaborative to give Data Managers an added layer of validation for harvest files, helping strengthen both data quality and overall accuracy.
The latest version supports both Adult Cardiac and General Thoracic modules, allowing you to switch between them using the dropdown menu within the application.

The MSTCVS QC Data Quality Checker
This tool will allow you to analyze your harvest file for the following adult cardiac and general thoracic quality checks:
Diabetes
Risk factor Diabetes is no and A1c level is > than 6.5.
Prolonged Vent
Prolonged Ventilation is yes and post operative ventilation hours are < 24. Prolonged Ventilation is no and post operative ventilation hours are > 24.
Discharge Date
Date of Discharge is missing or is prior to Admission Date or Surgery Date.
Length of Stay
Post op length of stay is < 2 days, discharge location is not “Other Acute Care Hospital” or “Hospice”, procedure is not “Transcatheter Valve Replacement” or “Percutaneous” Operative Approach, and mortality is no.
Severe Chronic Lung Disease
Risk factor Chronic Lung Disease is none, mild or moderate and FEV1 is < 50 or PO2 < 60 or PCO2 > 50.
Cath Date
Cardiac Catheterization Performed is yes and Cath Date is missing or is greater than 3 years prior to Surgery Date.
Renal Failure
Renal Failure is no and Postoperative Creatinine Level > 4mg/dL (rise of 0.5 or more) or 3x > Last Creatinine preoperatively or Dialysis (newly required) is yes. Excludes patients with preop creatinine >4.0 or preop dialysis.
Cross Clamp Time
Cross Clamp Time is < Cardiopulmonary Bypass Time and CPB Utilization is “Full” or “Combination” and Circulatory Arrest is no.
Readmission Date
Readmission is yes and Readmission Date is missing or is prior to Discharge Date.
30 Day Status
Review patient’s 30 day status.
Surgical Site Infection
Patient marked as having a surgical site infection but all specific infection fields are marked ‘No’ or missing.
Mortality
Patient discharged alive-died after discharge – Is within 30 days and operative mortality is no/missing.
BMI
Checks for BMI >75, height≥ 250cm and weight ≤100kg, or height ≤ 100cm and weight ≥ 120kg.
Primary Procedure Coding
A concomitant procedure code is listed as the primary procedure.
Category of Disease
A non-lung cancer diagnosis is used for major lung cancer procedures.
Procedure Conversion
Conversion approach does not match the final primary procedure approach (i.e.: conversion from VATS to Open and primary procedure is listed as minimally invasive code).
Lymph Node Malignancy Count
Number of malignant lymph nodes exceed total lymph nodes sampled.
Missing Clinical Staging – Lung
For major lung cancer cases, checks for clinical T, N, and M.
Missing Pathologic Staging – Lung
For major lung cancer cases, checks for pathologic T, N, and M.
Readmission
Patient is discharged alive and readmission status is blank or unknown.
